Description:

This course is part of the specialization on Biomacromolecules package. The objective is to provide the students with theoretical knowledge allowing them to independently analyse and suggest ways to produce and modify proteins and carbohydrates using state-of-the art technologies in biotechnology.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the consequence of using different biomasses as starting material for carbohydrates
  • Describe methods allowing carbohydrates extraction and characterisation
  • Describe and analyse the physical and chemical properties of carbohydrates that have an influence on the choice of production and analytical methods
  • Describe methods allowing structural determination of protein structures
  • Discuss, evaluate and conclude, based on scientific data, procedures for carbohydrates production and analysis
  • Discuss global demand and associated economy for carbohydrates within biomedicine, industrial enzymes, food/feed and Materials
